A tour designed to celebrate the American Thanksgiving Holiday and the festive opening days of the Christkindle Markets that begin the Christmas season in Germany

DAILY ITINERARY - November 19th to November 27th, 2011

Frankfurt Chistmas marketSaturday, November 19th – Frankfurt
I will meet you at the airport for transfer to our hotel in the city. Visit the Goethe Haus and one of the many fascinating museums - art, film making, history, architecture and even a postal service museum. If you would like more time to explore Frankfurt you may wish to arrive a day before the tour starts. Evening get acquainted reception.

Sunday, November 20th – Würzburg
We follow the Main River lined with a series of picturesque medieval towns. Wertheim has a beautiful location on the river with half timbered houses from the 16th century. In the afternoon we explore Würzburg’s center with the old river bridge dating to 1473 and the 18th century Residenz, one of the largest Baroque palaces in Germany.

RothenburgMonday, November 21st – Feuchtwangen
Our local guide will take us on a tour through the medieval cobbled streets of Rothenburg with its high gabled houses and town gates. The remainder of the day is free to visit the museums and explore the many shops and boutiques. Browse the popular Käthe Wohlfahrt Christmas shops.

Tuesday, November 22nd – Feuchtwangen
Feuchtwangen is a small town whose market square is referred to as “Franconia’s Festival Hall.” In front of our hotel is the Marktplatz (Market). The jewel of the square is the fountain built in 1727. The Heimatmuseum (Folklore Museum) displays furnishing styles through the ages from country farms to baroque and Biedermeier.

This morning we’ll visit the small village of Wörnitz and observe the making of the limited edition Leyk Candlehouses. Exclusive items will be for sale, including the House of the Night Watchman and the Toppler Castle. We will also stop in the medieval village of Dinkelsbühl.

Thursday, November 24th – Lindau
Today we will continue following the Romantic Road through more medieval towns, including Nördlingen. We’ll stop in Giengen, home of the Steiff teddy bear factory. Tonight we celebrate the Thanksgiving Holiday. The menu will combine traditional courses with various German specialties.

Steiff Teddy Bear Museum.Friday, November 25th – Lindau
This morning our local guide will show us the most interesting parts of Lindau Island, including the Pulverturm from 1508 and the Diebsturm from 1370 which were both parts of the ancient city wall that protected Lindau and its citizens for many centuries. The Mangturm from the 13th century was erected to protect the harbor. The afternoon is free to explore the beautiful Christkindlesmarkts situated in front of our hotel, next to the harbor.

Saturday, November 26th – Munich
Our coach takes us straight into Munich city center for time at the large Christmas Market, department stores, boutiques and museums. Christmas carols will be sung on the Marienplatz Square with the Cathedral and the neo-gothic town hall serving as a backdrop. There is also a wonderful Christmas market at the airport, a short walk from our hotel.

Sunday, November 27th – return to USA
Depart from Munich airport. Farewell to Europe and jet back to North America, arriving home the same day.  Meals (B)

If you have time you may wish to stay in Munich an extra night or join us for the second tour. Sunday, Nov. 27th we will provide transportation from Munich to Dresden. No additional nights required.

Note: most of the Christmas Markets open on November 24th.

GROUP SIZE IS LIMITED TO 29 GUESTS MAXIMUM

RESERVATIONS:  Notify us that you wish to join the tour.  Your space will be reserved and a sign-up packet will be forwarded with registration form and an invoice for deposit.  Upon receipt of your deposit, an information packet will be forwarded with further confirmation of your reservation and details to help prepare for the tour.  Full and final payment is due 80 days prior to departure.

AIR TRANSPORTATION:  Airfare is not included in the tour price.  Flight arrival and departure times should coincide with Gerhard’s group transfer schedule to/from the hotel and airport that will be provided on the day the tour starts.  Specific transfer times will be listed in the information packet, which is forwarded upon receipt of the tour reservation form.  Independent transfers can be arranged for those arrival and departures that do not coincide with the group transfer schedules and for those arriving prior to the start of the tour.

EXTRA NIGHTS: Special rates are available at the hotels used at the start and finish of the tours. If you wish to arrive a day early or extend your return by a day or two, the rate of $165 per double room ($125 single) will apply at the hotel in Frankfurt. Munich is $215 per double room ($185 single). A buffet breakfast, taxes and service charges are included at all hotels. Additional nights are confirmed on a space-available basis. Airport and hotel transfers are not provided for extra nights.
